Creating higher quality and more attractive working conditions for scientists is a key prerequisite for the progress of any society. Recognizing the need for stronger systemic support, the ERA-CAREERS project was officially launched on September 1, 2026, with the aim of helping institutions across Europe more effectively implement the European Charter for Researchers. The Science and Technology Park of Montenegro (STP MNE) is proud to participate in this initiative as one of 18 international partners, thereby further strengthening its role in connecting the domestic innovation ecosystem with modern European trends.

The project, which will run until the end of August 2029, directly responds to the current challenges researchers face today, such as inadequate working conditions and underdeveloped mechanisms for professional development. The main idea is that European standards should not just remain on paper, but be translated into concrete policies and practices through the joint work of institutions, researchers, and other key stakeholders.

To bring about real and measurable changes, ERA-CAREERS directs its activities in four key areas:

1. Understanding the challenges in research careers

Through the establishment of five national and three thematic clusters, the project will map the key challenges and opportunities shaping the development of research careers across Europe. A participatory approach will enable the gathering of insights and evidence that will serve as the basis for further learning, collaboration, and the creation of more effective policies.

2. Skills enhancement through the Learning and Certification Center

By developing a digital Learning and Certification Center, researchers, career development experts, and institutional leaders will have access to flexible and modular educational programs tailored to their different roles and needs.

The programs will focus on translating the principles of the European Charter for Researchers into practical tools and practices that can be applied in the daily work of institutions.

3. Connecting communities and sharing good practices

By forming a Pan-European Community of Practice, alongside four additional thematic communities, ERA-CAREERS will facilitate more intensive knowledge and experience exchange between institutions and other relevant actors.

These communities will provide a space for co-developing solutions, sharing experiences, and promoting successful support models for research careers.

4. Shaping policies for a sustainable future for researchers

The data, evidence, and experiences collected during the project will be translated into concrete recommendations, policy briefs, and strategic documents.

The project results will also be presented at the Research Careers Summit, with the aim of contributing to the long-term adoption and more effective implementation of the European Charter for Researchers across Europe.

The project is recognized and funded by the European Research Executive Agency (REA) under the Horizon Europe program, which confirms the strategic importance of its mission to strengthen research careers and institutional capacities across Europe.

Through ERA-CAREERS, STP MNE will contribute to creating a higher quality and more stimulating environment where researchers can develop their competencies, build sustainable careers, and actively participate in the European Research and Innovation Area.
