Environmental protection has long ceased to be solely an ecological issue and has become one of the greatest challenges of modern economic and technological development. On World Nature Conservation Day, the Science and Technology Park of Montenegro reminds us that innovation should serve sustainability.
As an institution actively contributing to the creation of an environment where innovation can thrive, STP Montenegro, through a range of international projects, is addressing key challenges related to energy efficiency, resource conservation, and the green transition.
A major step towards the smart use of marine resources is represented by the ABBA project, which aims to establish the Adriatic-Ionian Alliance for a Sustainable Blue Economy and create six regional centres of excellence. The project is already delivering tangible results: of the 26 concepts initially presented, 12 innovative solutions have advanced to the next testing phase, known as “Proof of Concept.” This process directly promotes the application of deep tech in the protection and sustainable use of water resources.
Alongside these activities, through MontEDIH, the first and only European Digital Innovation Hub in our country, STP Montenegro provides key support to the private and public sectors. Leveraging artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, blockchain, and high-performance computing technologies, the project is helping domestic businesses advance their digital and green transition.
When it comes to the rational use of resources on land, the ENERGY project delivers tangible solutions for improving energy efficiency in public institutions and residential buildings across the southern Adriatic region. Through this initiative, advanced equipment for precise energy consumption monitoring is being installed in selected buildings in partner municipalities, enabling local authorities to more easily identify losses and make faster, environmentally and economically sound decisions, while contributing to a reduced environmental footprint.
STP Montenegro’s continued commitment to the green agenda has been further confirmed by the successful implementation of two major regional projects, which have already delivered measurable results. Through the StoreMore project, a detailed analysis of energy storage solutions was conducted, and tools were developed to facilitate the transition to renewable energy sources across ten countries in the Danube Region. Meanwhile, the CI-HUB project successfully addressed the needs of less-developed areas of the Western Balkans by strengthening their innovation capacities through the B2Green platform, applying the principles of the circular economy and modern Industry 4.0 models.
Building a sustainable future and effectively adapting to climate change require expertise, collaboration, and a clear vision. Successfully completed projects and programmes, as well as those currently underway, position STP Montenegro as a reliable partner and a central hub for all those who seek to use technology to protect nature and make a positive impact on society.
