The arrival of global experts represents a key step forward in empowering the local innovation community and connecting it with global capital flows. Guided by this vision, the Science and Technology Park of Montenegro organized an interactive lecture titled “Connecting with Global Capital: Meet a Business Angel,” hosting Craig Mullett, President of the US company Branison Group and a globally recognized business angel. This exclusive event gathered numerous Montenegrin innovators, startup founders, and entrepreneurs who, through direct dialogue, had a rare opportunity to learn firsthand how international investment networks operate.
Through examples from his extensive experience, Mullett thoroughly deconstructed the entire investment process. Special emphasis was placed on the famous “5 T’s” model of elements that every investor carefully analyzes before making a final funding decision. The first step in this process is evaluating the target market (Target Market), its definition, and potential, followed by assessing the innovativeness and sustainable competitive advantage of the product itself (Technology/Product). However, technology is not sustainable without a high-quality, capable, and credible team (Team) that can execute that vision. Ultimately, past results and market validation of the idea (Traction) play a crucial role, as well as the startup valuation and a carefully planned deal structure (Terms).
To successfully communicate these complex elements, attendees received practical guidelines for creating an effective pitch deck. A winning focus must always be on the vision of the future, proven business metrics, and a strong opening statement. It was particularly emphasized that a concrete demonstration is always more powerful than just talking about it, and that applying the “Show > Tell” approach and presenting real prototypes or user experiences is the fastest way to build trust with those investing capital. In this way, entrepreneurs had the opportunity to learn about opportunities, exchange contacts, expand their network, and gain new knowledge, which was the very goal of the event.
By organizing such gatherings, the Science and Technology Park of Montenegro reaffirms its mission to be a reliable pillar of support in the professional development of entrepreneurs and the continuous improvement of the innovation ecosystem.
