European Innovation Act: Stronger Support for the Commercialization of Ideas and a Simpler Path to Market

The European Commission is actively working to remove barriers to the commercialization of innovative solutions within the European Union. At the core of this strategic response is the European Innovation Act, which brings key changes to the way intellectual property is valued, protected, and brought to market.

In order to provide concrete systemic support to entrepreneurs and companies, the EU Intellectual Property Office has been entrusted with the mandate to develop a unified framework for intellectual property valuation at the European level. There are also plans to create a digital marketplace that will significantly facilitate transactions and directly connect buyers and sellers. This entire process will be further strengthened by the establishment of a special competence center, tasked with providing guidelines, training, and technical support in the commercialization of innovative solutions.

In addition to improving the intellectual property system, the act directly facilitates investment in innovation through the public procurement system for research and development. By simplifying procedures and promoting solutions created in Europe, public buyers across the continent are enabled to cooperate faster and more efficiently.

Given that every innovation needs a safe space for testing before entering the market, a Council Recommendation on the introduction of regulatory sandbox environments has also been proposed. By creating a common framework based on the best European practices, innovators are offered a space to efficiently test new technologies while strictly ensuring all protective measures necessary for safe development.

This is an important step toward the further development of new ideas and their transformation into concrete solutions and products.
