EUDATATHON 2020

Innovating with EU Open Data

On February 19, 2020, the fourth edition of the EU Datathon competition was launched, focusing on open data. To participate in this competition, it is required to propose the development of an application that connects and uses open data sets. The application should demonstrate possibilities for specific business models or social enterprises. Participants are also expected to find appropriate new approaches and solutions that will help Europe achieve important goals set by the European Commission using open data.

Therefore, your project should align with one of the following thematic challenges:

Challenge 1: “European Green Deal”

Challenge 2: “Economy for People”

Challenge 3: “A New Boost for European Democracy”

Challenge 4: “Europe Responding to the Digital Age”

You can submit your proposal with a brief description until May 3rd.

This is your chance to showcase the potential created by open data in today’s society, and of course, your creativity and talent!

Twelve winning teams (i.e., three teams per challenge) will be shortlisted. If you are among them, you will be invited to develop your application and present it on October 13th and 15th during the 18th European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels, an event that attracts over 9,000 participants from around the world.

At this event, three teams will be selected and awarded the following prizes (for each challenge):

First place: €12,000

Second place: €8,000

Third place: €5,000

The EU Datathon 2020 is organized by the Publications Office of the European Union, in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy of the European Commission.
