Transnational CI-HUB Camp: Innovation and Sustainable Urban Transformation

As part of the CI-HUB project, in which the Science and Technology Park of Montenegro is participating as one of 13 partners, a Transnational Camp was organized in Sofia (Bulgaria) on March 18–19, 2026. The event included a project team meeting, a steering committee meeting, and a final conference dedicated to sustainable urban transformation.

The event brought together project partners, stakeholders, experts, and institutional representatives with the aim of exchanging good practices, discussing public policy instruments, and exploring practical ways to implement circular and sustainable transition measures. The leading organizational role was taken by the ICT Cluster, which hosted the event in Sofia. During the first day of the Transnational Camp, given that this was the final project meeting, the focus was on summarizing the activities carried out so far and finalizing key aspects of the CI-HUB project. Participants discussed the achieved results, progress made, and the contribution delivered to the community. Special attention was given to the current status of the project, final steps, reporting obligations, and ways of further coordination and online collaboration until the project’s completion. Additionally, as an example of best practice, Mr. Danilo Grbović from the Eko Daska team explained how waste can be turned into resources (“Turning Waste Into Resources”), highlighting the recycling of plastic into functional urban furniture, the promotion of circular economy solutions, and waste reduction through the use of innovative materials. On this occasion, he also had the opportunity to connect with relevant institutions and stakeholders from the Danube region. He also presented future development plans, which include expanding the production of sustainable urban furniture, increasing plastic waste recycling capacity, collaborating with cities, schools, and institutions, and promoting circular economy solutions across the region.

On the second day, the camp was focused on a broader dialogue with stakeholders and decision-makers through the event “Future Cities Bulgaria 2026: Sustainable Urban Transformation.” The panel discussion focused on the digitalization of municipalities, smart public services, and the application of innovative technologies. A special part of the program was the presentation by Maja Sušec, who introduced B2GREENHub, an innovation platform that promotes circular transition, collaboration, and the development of new ideas, with the aim of strengthening innovation potential in less developed and non-urban industrial regions with weaker innovation infrastructure, and facilitating municipalities’ access to digital solutions and innovations.

The project is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg Danube Region Program 2021–2027, and the event further strengthened the transnational dimension of the CI-HUB project, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation, dialogue, and the development of sustainable urban solutions. The Science and Technology Park of Montenegro expresses its satisfaction for having had the opportunity, in the final phase of the project, to contribute to the exchange of experiences and present innovative solutions.
