Innovation in focus: The technology transfer office as a new driver of Montenegro’s development

At a time when Montenegro is ambitiously building its innovation identity, the establishment of the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) within the Science and Technology Park of Montenegro marks a turning point in connecting science, business, and society.

In an interview for the Bulletin of the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro (No. 05/2025), Srna Sudar, phd, director of the TTO, discusses the vision driving this Office, as well as the significance of its establishment for strengthening Montenegro’s innovation ecosystem. She highlights its role in enhancing the connection between science and industry, protecting intellectual property, and supporting researchers, startups, and small and medium-sized enterprises in the process of innovation commercialization. This interview reflects the ambitious and strategic mission of the TTO – to bridge science, innovation, and business, empower knowledge transfer, protect and commercialize research results, and thus ignite a new economic dynamic in the country.

Why? The TTO represents a key link in creating a modern, competitive, and sustainable innovation ecosystem in Montenegro. Through its work with researchers, startups, and small and medium-sized enterprises, the TTO creates space for growth and technological progress based on local knowledge and talent.

Srna Sudar, phd, presented the Office’s plans, including new programs such as i4ME and Smart Solution Meet Up, as well as strategic development directions through 2030 — including international partnerships, education, and support for innovation.

“TTO not only facilitates technology transfer but also fosters development based on science and knowledge, making Montenegro more competitive at both the regional and international levels,” emphasizes Sudar, phd.
