The European Commission believes in the creativity and caliber of European startups, as expressed in its recent communication with the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The Commission has issued a call for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with technologies and innovations that could aid in the treatment, testing, monitoring, or other aspects of the Coronavirus outbreak to urgently apply for the next round of funding from the European Innovation Council.
Deadline for EIC Accelerator Applications is Wednesday, March 18 (local time in Brussels) by 5 PM
With a budget of 164 million euros, there are no predefined themes, and applicants with relevant innovations for the Coronavirus will be evaluated in the same way as other applicants.
With this in mind, the Commission intends to expedite the award of EIC grants and blended finance (combining grants and equity investments) for innovations related to the Coronavirus, as well as to facilitate access to other sources of funding and investment.
The EIC already supports a number of startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with innovations relevant to the Coronavirus, which have been granted funding in previous rounds. This includes the EpiShuttle project for special isolation units, the m-TAP project for filtration technology to remove viral material, and the MBENT project for monitoring human mobility during epidemics.
